Little Egret
Egretta garzetta

From DVOC's Delaware Valley Birds: "Marshes and shallow water. Two records: Little Creek WMA/Bombay Hook NWR, DE. 1999 and 2001."

Habitat:
Shallow ponds and lakes, coastal lagoons.

Status:
Very rare. Only two records in this area, both from Bombay Hook NWR, Delaware. The first being in July 1999 and the second in June 2001. Highly migratory species between Europe and sub-Sahara/West Africa. There is a small breeding colony (about 20 pairs) in the West Indies on Barbados; the only one in the Western Hemisphere. It was first recorded in the West Indies in 1954, and on Barbados in 1962.
