Pacific Golden Plover
Pluvialis fulva

From DVOC's Delaware Valley Birds: "One record: Deerfield, NJ sod farm 2001"

Habitat:
Coastal mudflats and lagoons, sandy beaches, ploughed fields and short grasslands especially during migration. Nests on wetter lowland tundra.
Status and Distribution:
Breeds in western Alaska and into northern Siberia, wintering in the western Pacific. Most records for the US are from California. There is one previous eastern record, from Maine.

  • Directions:
    From the intersection of Rte 40 & Rte 77 in Pole Tavern, continue on Rt. 77 to just over the Salem-Cumberland Co. border. Look for Griers Lane (CR688) and Hannans Lane, also known as Ovilet Road (CR 690) on the left (eastside). Both these roads intersect with Burlington Road (which runs north south), to the east. These roads surround the sod farm.
