Habitat
Oceanic; Coastal beaches

Status and Distribution
Scare and uncommon spring migrant and summer visitor; very rare fall migrant (Aug – mid Sept) as they tend to migrate well offshore.

Range
East coast from Nova Scotia to Florida Keys. Breeds from Long Island to Cape Cod; Florida Keys & Dry Tortugas.

Best locations
In New Jersey…..Hereford Inlet and Cape May.

Best time to see them
From mid May through mid July

History / Records
3 Pennsylvania records – Reading 1895; Philadelphia 1938; Green Lane 1959. 1st reported from Delaware in 1957 with more recent records from Cape Henlopen where they are listed as occasional
