Pelagic Christmas Count
| Report See Life Paulagics ran its annual pelagic Christmas Bird Count on Friday, December 30 out of Belmar, NJ. Conditions were difficult, with high winds hampering any chance of getting far offshore. As a result, we ran a transect that run roughly one mile out from the beach from Shark River up to the southern part of Sandy Hook, turned out to about 6 miles off of the beach, ran back to just south of Manasquan Inlet, and returned to Shark River. Highlights of the trip were 12 Razorbills, a 1st-winter Iceland Gull, and a 2nd-winter Glaucous x Herring Gull hybrid that came right to the back of the boat. |
