DVOC Field Trip Report

Palmyra Cove Nature Park, New Jersey
August 29, 2010 (Sunday)

This year I again limited the trip to 10 participants, but 13 turned out to be more accurate, a workable number. Two Peregrine Falcons on the Tacony Palmyra Bridge made for an auspicious beginning. The warblers were in small numbers overall, but we did see Tennessee and Nashville, along with a very nondescript Blackburnian Warbler.

In addition, there were numbers of Baltimore Orioles, Eastern Wood-Pewees and Warbling and Red-eyed Vireos. We also had Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 3 Osprey and a very cooperative Cooper’s Hawk. Young birder Jack Beltz had 9 lifers amongst the 63 species observed.

We also had some nice non-birds, a Gray Hairstreak and a couple of Russet-tipped Clubtails among them. It was fun birding with a really great group of people.
