There are two spaces available for full-time
participants on an Oregon Birding trip this June.
The trip will run from June 3rd through June 15. The birding will include all the varied habitats in Oregon. It will begin in the Coast Range east of Portland, proceed to the coast covering the area from Seaside south to Newport before crossing the Coast range again to the Willamette Valley. From there we will journey east across the Cascade Mountains to the town of Sisters for two nights. Leaving Sisters we will proceed further east into pinyon-juniper habitat and cross the sagebrush flats of eastern Oregon to Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, then finish the trip in the Blue and Wallowa Mountains of northeast Oregon before returning to Portland.
A virtually similar itinerary in 2006 produced 207 species.
You will be responsible for booking your own flight and transportation to the first night's motel (if you are unable to book on the same flights as others). Currently there are 10 DVOCers signed up for the full trip (YY & Jane Huang, Dino & Peg Fiabane, Earl & Alyn Harrison, Al Driscoll, Tom Bailey, Diane Dasey and Don Jones). Four other DVOCers will join us for part of the trip. We can accommodate two additional people for the full trip. We will be using three vehicles where you would pay a proportionate share of the rental and gas costs. Lodging at double occupancy is about $600. Breakfasts will be taken in the field or at the motels; all lunches will be in the field. Costs for in the field meals and refrigeration(coolers) are allocated among all those in a vehicle. Dinners will be in restaurants. The two spaces will be filled on a first come-first served basis; beyond the first two spaces you would be placed on a waiting list in case someone had to cancel for some unexpected reason.
