“I learned about bird watching on routine visits to the Museum of Natural History in Philadelphia. One trip featured the horseshoe crab migration and my daughter did a school project on this wonderous event. I was hooked after that experience and studied more about bird migration and the importance of wetlands and the environment for bird existence. I visited the Cape May bird observatory and the Brigantine Bird Sanctuary routinely and locally visit Rose Tree Park and Ridley State Park for bird and Hawk sitings. Also, the Tyler Arboritum has bird walks that I enjoy. I have an interest in the environment that started with bird education. Therefore, this continued exposure is part of my thinking about our planet health. “ From Joan's 2010 application |
