Alex Cohen

My interest in birds was kindled by Olwen Jarvis, kindergarten teacher at Buckingham Friends School. Two friends and I, “ The Woodsy Boys”, birded together through elementary school and became the first young peoples Bird-a-Thon team for Bucks County Audubon, and competed as the first young peoples team in the World Series for 3 years. I was a Vireo volunteer while in high school. Alan Brady brought me to DVOC meetings at age 12 and I delighted in the stories and banter during meetings and greasy spoon dinners before the meetings. As a third year student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and owner of my own business (The Magpie Mobile Mercantile Gallery and Studio. www.themagpie.org) I have very little time for formal birding. However, I watch them whenever possible especially when out with Nate Rice who has taken me under his wing to teach me about hunting and marksmanship.
