World Series of Birding
  • The concept – to identify as many species as possible in New Jersey during a 24 hour period.

Doing a Big Day at this level
  • Not about finding birds.
  • It is about going to where you previously found birds.
    • Scouting, scouting, scouting!
    • Hope to get a flock of migrants.
    • Most scouting involves places you will never visit on the day.
  • Object is not to go to as many places as possible. The object is to go to as few places as possible.

  • In a Perfect World
    • 1440 minutes (24x60)
    • A new species every 6.5 minutes results in 220 species
  • Reality
    • 780 minutes (13x60) (11 hours of driving between locations)
    • A new species every 3.5 minutes results in 220 species

What is the Primary Purpose of this event?
  • To raise money for conservation projects.

  • This year we are using funds we collect for Red Knot conservation along the Delaware Bayshore.
