2000 FIELD TRIP SCHEDULE

January 8, 2000– FLORENCE, NJ for some of the best gull watching in the east; ‘white-winged’ gulls, Lesser Black-backs, and a search for Yellow-legged Gull. Meet at the boat ramp at 9AM.

January 15 - 17, 2000 – MONTAUK (LONG ISLAND), NY for winter finches, eiders, scoters, alcids and any Eurasian accidentals. Car pool from N.E. Phila at 6AM. Space is limited due to lodging constraints – first come, first served! Max. 16

March 5, 2000– NEW JERSEY PELAGIC, out of CAPE MAY aboard the ‘Miss Chris’, looking for alcids, skuas and fulmars. 5AM to 5PM. Cost: $65 per person. Max. 40 people.

March 25, 2000– PEDRICKTOWN and MANNINGTON MARSH ( S.W. NJ) for winter stragglers and early migrants, including Ruff.

April 26 - 29, 2000 – DRY TORTUGAS, FL aboard the ‘Yankee Freedom’ at the height of spring migration, with Kevin Karlson’s Jaeger Tours. Space limited.

May 5 - 7, 2000– "THREE DAYS IN THE SWAMPS", POCOMOKE and the ENVIRONS, DE and MD starting at Bombay Hook and Little Creek followed by an evening jaunt for rails and then on to the Pocomoke Swamp. Some folks camp, while others get accommodations at nearby motels.

May 6, 2000– WHITE CLAY CREEK, DE. Nesting Cerulean Warblers are possible along with Hooded Warbler, Pileated Woodpecker and Willow Flycatcher. Meet at the Hot Shoppes Rest area on Rte 95 south of Wilmington, between Rtes 273 & 896 at 6:30AM.

May 13, 2000– PENNYPACK CREEK PARK, Philadelphia for an all day affair with warblers in the morning and a search for Bicknell’s in the afternoon.

May 21, 2000– HAWKINS ROAD and BRIGHTVIEW FARM, Burlington Co., NJ. The target species at Hawkins Road will be breeding Prothonotary, Worm-eating, Kentucky and Hooded Warblers and grasslands species at Brightview Farm. Meet at 6AM at the Vincentown Diner, Rte 206/38.

August 26, 2000– NEW JERSEY PELAGIC, out of Brielle aboard the ‘Atlantis’, to the Hudson Canyon at the prime time for Long-tailed Jaegers during their southbound migration. All 3 species of Jaegers and South polar Skua are possible as well as Shearwaters and Storm-Petrels. 5AM - 9PM. Cost: $75

September 17, 2000 – FALL BIRDING at the BAILEY TRACT, PALMYRA, NJ. Anything is possible at this great location, but the focus will be on migrating warblers. Last year 22 species including numerous Connecticut Warblers as well as Lincoln’s and Clay-colored Sparrow.

September 30 - October 8, 2000– VERACRUZ, Mexico. Join Kevin Karlson’s Jaeger Tours for the spectacular ‘River of Raptors’, along with over 250 species seen in 1999. Full.

October 7, 2000 – TUCKERTON MARSHES, NJ for Sharp-tailed Sparrows, with great comparison of all races of Nelson’s and Salt Marsh Sharp-tailed’s. A walk along 7 bridges road, is likely to add another dozen sparrow species. This will be followed by a loop around Brigantine NWR. Meet at the end of 7 Bridges Road at 7:30 sharp!

November 4, 2000 – Bake Oven Knob for migrating raptors. Meet in the parking lot at Bake Oven at 8:30 AM. We will leave the Hawk Watch by 2 PM. Bring Food!
