BIRDING THE NATIVE GRASSLANDS AT THE PENNYPACK TRUST,
MONTGOMERY CO., PA
Ten DVOC members walked the grasslands at the Pennypack
Trust this cool and delightful morning. No birds but the expected ones but we
had several encounters that proved nesting and fledging young for the Breeding
Bird survey. The pair of Kestrel had 2 young birds out on the bushes and were
feeding and teaching them hunting techniques. Much kiting and low pursuit of
dragonflies. Along the floodplain, we located Orchard Oriole and Baltimore nests
along with a mobbing session that flushed a Cooper's Hawk from the mature forest.
