Lakehurst Naval Air Station Trip Report
June 10, 2009
All participants had good looks at the Upland Sandpiper and we all enjoyed his unique “wolf-whistle” song. We also enjoyed Grasshopper Sparrows, Eastern Meadowlarks, Eastern Kingbirds, Horned Larks and others. In addition to visiting the open grassland habitat, we enjoyed a walk around a pond at the air station. An immature Blue Grosbeak was the highlight of this walk. The lowlight were the many ticks we found on our clothes.
After leaving Lakehurst, 4 participants visited Brightview Farms. The birds included Eastern Bluebirds, Chipping, Field and Grasshopper Sparrows, Bobolinks, Tree Swallows and Eastern Meadowlarks.
