John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, PA

The DVOC field trip to the John Heinz NWR at Tinicum met in the parking lot just outside the Cusano Environmental Education Center at eight am. A big thank you to the Heinz NWR staff for opening up the building half an hour early for our group to use the facilities. We lucked out on the weather when the rain ended early in the morning and we had a beautiful day to go birding. We had seven DVOC members including: Roy Seneca, Ralph Hoppel, Paul Kearney, Barbara Granger, Patti Rehn, Jennifer Pour and Denis Brennan. We ended up with thirteen guests with some joining us because the regular walk at the refuge was canceled.

The group worked well together and everyone contributed to the walk. Several guests expressed interest in becoming members of the DVOC. We ended up with forty-one birds for the day. We walked at a birders pace to the Observation Tower and concluded by birding our way back to the parking lot at eleven am.
