DVOC Field Trip Report

October 15 (Saturday) – ASHLAND NATURE CENTER (near Hockessin, Delaware)
A small but select band met in brilliant sunshine at Delaware Nature Society's Ashland Reserve. Passerine migrants were not plentiful and the majority appeared to be Yellow-rumped Warblers, with Common Yellowthroat and Blue-headed and Red-eyed Vireos showing also. Tree Swallows and Chimney Swifts abounded overhead. Four species of Sparrow were in the floodplain area but the reported Clay-colored could not be found. Up on the hawkwatch where Cyrus Moqtaderi held his court, a nice passage of Bald Eagles, Osprey, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Merlin, Red-tailed Hawk and Kestrel was had, but we had long gone when the Golden Eagle came through later in the day.
