DVOC Field Trip Report

March 10, 2012
Barnegat Light, New Jersey

A veritable horde of 31 eager birders blanketed the Barnegat Light parking lot March 10, fired up to see all the waterfowl in that excellent inlet area and at the Brigantine (Forsythe) NWR later. Of these, 25 were from the Upper Main Line YMCA, ages 12-18 plus supervisors. Despite some winds, we prevailed.

Harlequins, Common Eiders, and (briefly) Snow Buntings were highlights at Barnegat. At Brigantine refuge, as the day warmed, we enjoyed Bluebirds, Snow Geese, many ducks, and a far-away Peregrine. Those who lingered for a second trip around the loop had Tundra Swans, Redheads, Canvasbacks, and Ring-necked ducks missed on the first loop. A great time was had by all.
