DVOC Field Trip Report

April 27, 2013 (Saturday)
Fort Washington State Park

Leader: Jane Henderson

Nearly 20 people turned up for the annual spring Fort Washington State Park field trip to look for spring migrants and whatever other birds might be around. The weather was perfect. We found 38 species. Highlights were Great Horned Owl female perched on a branch, with two youngsters nestled in a hole in a nearby tree. Nearly everyone got great looks at them. Other notable species were: Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Palm, Black-and-white and Yellow-rumped Warblers; Ovenbird heard; all three mimids: Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird and Brown Thrasher; Eastern Bluebird; Blue-gray Gnatcatcher engaged in nest building, and another highlight near the end of the walk: Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
