Minutes of the DVOC for November 7, 2002
Colin Campbell called the meeting to order.
23 members and 2 guests were present for the Members Slide Show Night.
Minutes of the October 17, 2002 meeting were read and approved.
Brad Merritt of New Jersey was recommended for membership by Tom and Margot Southerland.
Jan Gordon reported for the Conservation Committee that a wetlands may possibly be added to the Roxborough Reservoir area.
Paul Guris reported on the November 2 field trip to Bake Oven Knob on a cold but beautiful day on the Ridge. Members saw six Golden Eagles, two Bald Eagles, several Red-shouldered Hawks, Purple Finch, and Snow Buntings, plus a Goshawk at Hawk Mountain.
A trip to Long Island and Montauk is planned for January 18, 19, & 20 (Martin Luther King Weekend). Make your reservations with Erica Brendel or Chris Walters.
The Annual Banquet will be November 21 at Williamson's Restaurant.
On December 5 we will hear about the Jerusalem Bird Observatory. Our speaker will be its Director, Amir Balaban.
The December 19 meeting is set aside for "Memorable Moments in Birding." Think of some of your experiences and come tell us about them.
Paul Guris will be leading a pelagic trip on November 16 out of Lewes, Delaware.
The impact of West Nile Virus, especially on Great Horned Owls, was announced and discussed.
Mike Lyman had Northern Shrike today, and Greater White-fronted Goose recently, at Peace Valley Park in Bucks Co.
Ron French reported King Eider and a female Harlequin Duck recently at Lake Nochamixon, Bucks Co.
Bob Rufe reported on the LeConte's Sparrow seen last weekend at Bombay Hook.
A wonderful collection of slides and digital images were shown. These were taken by Mellon, McMorris, Kerr, Anita Guris, Campbell, and Brady. First place category winners were Mellon, Kerr, and Brady, with Steve Kerr walking off with the Grand Prize, for his evocative slide of "Egrets at Thompson's Beach."
