November 15, 2007
Rick Mellon, subbing for Chris Walters, called the meeting to order at 7:50 PM. In attendance were 32 members and 4 guests.
Membership Committee: Chairwoman Connie Goldman announced that Susan Killeen has been accepted as a member. After reminding us that we had one last chance to place our names in the Banquet Raffle Box, she selected the winners. Dennis and Anna Bert have won the opportunity to sit with our Banquet Speaker, Don Kroodsma
Field Trips: Rob Hynson ran this part of the meeting.
Frank Windfelder reported that the November 3rd Bake Oven Knob trip was a success. Two Golden Eagles and four Northern Goshawks were seen.
Bob Horton reported that the Saturday, November 10th trip to Hidden Valley, PA resulted in the capture of 8 Northern Saw-whet Owls.

Bert Filemyr told us that it is time to update your contact information for the 2008 Membership Directory. A list was circulated at the meeting for members to submit changes. Changes can also be e-mailed to Naomi Murphy at ndmurphy @hotmail.com .
Annual DVOC Banquet - Wednesday December 5th. Please join us for the upcoming DVOC banquet. Our speaker, Dr. Don Kroodsma, is a Professor Emeritus of Biology at the University of Massachusetts. He is the foremost expert on the science of bird song.
Complete information is available at http://www.dvoc.org/Banquet/Banquet2007.htm . The cost is $41.00 per person. The menu consists of Barbequed Beef, Roasted half Chicken or Vegetarian. Reservations must be received by Sunday, December 2nd.
Edie Parnum recently saw 4 Evening Grosbeaks in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
On November 13th, Tony Croasdale saw a Pine Siskin in a flock of American Goldfinches at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum. Today, Leigh Ashbrook saw 11 Pine Siskins at the Schuylkill Valley Nature Center in Philadelphia.
Marty Dellwo reported 3 Brant near Marsh Creek in Chester County, PA.Rick Mellon recently saw a flock of American Pipits in the Yardley/Newtown area of Bucks County, PA.
Erica Brendel brought in a couple of “skeletons”, probably European Starlings. Apparently, large numbers of the birds were entombed in a column on the porch of a neighbor.
Ornithological Studies: Edie Parnum brought guest Laurene Nevels, whose feeder operation earned the title, “Hummingbird Hotspot in Central Pennsylvania”.
Program: Main speaker Dr. Bob Curry gave a most enlightening
talk on "Hybridization of Black-capped and Carolina Chickadees".
